Is there any point to debating/ arguing/ reasoning with religious believers?

People have various reasons for wanting to engage in conversation with those of opposing views. Conversion is not always the only reason or even the reason at all, even so, sometimes people are convinced to look at things differently and some eventually change their beliefs. I say this as a former fundamentalist Christian, a former new ager, and a current rationalist and atheist.
